# How the Infinite Kitchen Pod compares

The goal of the pod is low prices on restaurant meals made with rich, quality ingredients. The savings come from automating the kitchen, not from cheaper food. This page looks at the companies working on kitchen automation and what they charge.

Hobbyists share pieces of kitchen automation online (open delta mechanisms, small cleaning robots, basic ROS delivery carts). As far as we can find, nobody has published an open, end-to-end design for a self-cleaning modular cooking pod: the architecture, the thermal and water math, the CAD and the bill of materials. The closest competitors are venture-backed companies with closed designs.

Prices below were checked against public reporting in October 2026. Where we could not find a source, the figure is marked "not published". Vendor pricing changes, so treat every number as a snapshot.

| Company | What it does | Price | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Miso Robotics (Flippy) | Robotic fry station. Single task, needs an existing restaurant kitchen. | About $3,000 per month, robot as a service | [Fox 2 Detroit, White Castle rollout](https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/white-castle-hiring-robots-to-give-the-right-tools-for-serving-more-hot-and-tasty-food) |
| Botinkit (ChefBot) | Wok style cooking robot that stir fries and plates dishes. Works inside an existing kitchen. | $43,000 to buy, or a monthly plan (the US reseller lists both $902 and $1,199 per month) | [RobotLAB](https://www.robotlab.com/store/botinkit/) |
| Hyper Food Robotics | Containerized robotic restaurant. | Not published | |
| Nala Robotics (Pizzaiola) | Robotic pizza and multi-cuisine kitchen. | Lease from about $7,000 per month (reported 2022) | [Fortune](https://fortune.com/2022/10/18/tech-forward-everyday-ai-robots-pizza/) |
| Moley Robotics | Dual-arm robotic kitchen for luxury homes, not commercial volume. | £248,000, about $335,000 (reported at launch) | [The Spoon](https://thespoon.tech/moleys-robotic-kitchen-goes-on-sale/) |

## Where the pod fits

- **A whole kitchen, not one station.** Flippy and ChefBot automate one task inside a kitchen someone already built. The pod is the kitchen: cold storage, cooking, cleaning, packaging and pickup in one enclosure.
- **Owned, not rented.** The design targets a $185,000 turnkey price (early estimate) with a 4.5 month payback in the brochure model, instead of a permanent monthly fee.
- **Open.** The design, the numbers and the open problems are public under open licenses, so anyone can check them, improve them or build one.

Every one of these advantages exists to keep menu prices low while the ingredients stay good.
